While the price for coffee is already rising, Seattle plans to implement a ten-cent tax on top of existing prices for espresso drinks in order to help fund early childhood learning in the city. Many families cannot afford preschool, which better prepares children for kindergarten. Proponents believe the funding from this tax could alleviate the financial problems of the city government, while others believe that charging more for coffee would hurt business.
