The Patriot Act passed almost unanimously by congress is encroaching on civil liberties, especially in the eyes of librarians. Members of the FBI can gain records to lists of books that an individual may check out, and librarians are legally bound to give this information while being forced not to tell their patrons. Government officials argue that this act has helped them prevent terrorist activities in the country.
