As many as 70 million feral cats roam the country, many of whom are offspring of unfixed domestic cats let out at night by their owners. A lot of the feral cats have acquired diseases such as FIV, the feline equivalent of AIDS. Some organizations are now fixing and vaccinating feral cats and releasing them back on the streets, a slow but worthwhile process.
