The city of Los Angeles' Operation Clean Sweep has hired more than a dozen contractors to paint over and remove the graffiti that plague many neighborhoods. Besides being an eyesore to many, graffiti is used by gang members to lay claim to an area and send messages to other gangs. Police say less graffiti correlates with less crime, but clean up crews still fear for their safety.
