The Ballona wetlands are the last historic and coastal wetland habitat in Los Angeles County. The wetlands and their wild inhabitants have been harmed by pollution and urban sprawl. Restoration efforts, including volunteer groups such as the Friends of Ballona Trash Armada are gradually restoring the wetlands to health.
